Something for the beginners

One of the best things you can do as a beginner in SEO is to get your plan in place.  SEO is not a magic wand that you wave once and you are set for life.  Search engine optimization involves on-going additions to your site and work on the off-page components.

You should have a plan in place for the following items:

1. Marketing – make sure you are looking at your stats and improving your site from a marketing standpoint (increasing conversion) over time.

2.  Content – you want to have a  plan in place that is realistic for you to keep up with.  Maybe you can add a page a week, or only one a month.  Whatever it is, make a plan for it so that it consistently happens.

3. Article syndication – make sure you have a plan in place to write and syndicate at least one article per month.

4.  Links – make sure you are getting quality, relevant links to your site on an on-going basis.

5. Blogging – Make sure you post to your blog at least once a week, even more if possible.  Blogging is a great way to attract spiders attention since new content is constantly being added and the spiders love that.

6. Press Releases – Have a plan in place to use press releases strategically through out the year.

You will find as your campaign matures and you continually work on the components listed above that the rewards for the time put in will be great.  Giving the engines exactly what they want – which is a current, informative and growing website with links, new content, a blog and articles driving traffic to the site — will get your site in the top of the rankings and drive the traffic you are looking for. 

Just remember, when you are adding content and writing articles – don’t write for the engines – write for your customers and site visitors – that way you can be sure it is quality content and that it will also help you convert those new found visitors into customers.
