Analytics
I am back after an incredible week in Hawaii, and am working on getting caught up on emails, phone calls and realized I also need to post something on my Blog. So here I am.
Recently there is a lot of talk about analytics. And for good reason. Analytics (as defined by Wikipedia) is: The branch of logic dealing with analysis. Analytics closely resembles statistical analysis and data mining, but tends to be based on physics modeling involving extensive computation.
More specifically, Wikipedia defines Web Analytics as: The measurement of the behavior of visitors to a website. In a commercial context, it especially refers to the measurement of which aspects of the website work towards the business objectives; for example, which landing pages encourage people to make a purchase.
That is really what we are talking about. It is essential to your success.
EcomBuffet is an SEO Firm, we offer SEO services — SEO services create rankings, which drive traffic to your site. Typically that’s where our clients and prospective clients stop thinking. They want a ranking report to show the rankings we have achieved and then they want a review of basic web stats to see that they are in fact getting new traffic.
That is definitely important information, and it is step one. However, we are encouraging our clients to not stop there.Â
Look at it this way: people realize that rankings are not beneficial if they don’t deliver traffic. Therefore the keywords need to be relevant and your full keyword list should cover varying degrees of competitive keywords, so you get traffic in large quantities for the more competitive terms and you get smaller streams of more targeted traffic for some more obscure, yet relevant keywords. People understand that. However, they need to take that logic further. So, you have your rankings, you have your traffic — do you have sales? Are you getting people to opt-in to your list? Are people clicking on your Adsense ads to make you money? If your traffic isn’t taking action — your most desired action — on your site – how does that traffic benefit you? It doesn’t!
You need to make sure that the traffic is converting into a lead or a sale, or profit from their click on your Adsense. There are 2 ways that you can do that:
1. Go sit with all your site visitors in their home and make them buy from you. (Could be fun, but not really realistic)
2. Use an Analytics System to determine what people are doing on your site, and then take that information and use it (properly) to change the conversion rates on your site. Â
From analytics, you can learn what pages people are coming in on, what pages they are leaving from, how long they are staying on your site, you can get a grasp on your ROI for your various marketing efforts and more.
Analytics can be complex, and it definitely isn’t something that is mainstream at this point. However anyone that truly wants to succeed in their business needs to find a way to incorporate analytics into it.
EcomBuffet is proud to be a pioneer in Analytics, and are excited about our offerings when it comes to Analytics.
And now, after my little rant on the important of analytics, I am going to get back to returning calls and emails.Â
Don’t forget, you can always ask questions or leave comments here. I encourage you to participate and ask the questions that are on your mind.
