SEO TIP:Trusted Links

The total number of links your site has is now NOT as important as the number of links from “trusted” web sites.

In fact, having a lot of links from sites that are not trusted sites could actually hurt your rankings. I’m not talking just about links from “links farms” or “bad neighborhood,” hurting your rankings.

Too many links from new or not yet trusted sites could hurt too. You have a gut feel about whether a site is a trusted site or not. This will go a long way towards helping you get links from trusted sites. Use your gut feel and you will be ahead of most webmasters.

It would be nice if Google would assign a “Trust factor” rating number to sites just like they give a PageRank number. But do not count on that.

Before you do a link exchange, or one way link, check out the site first.

1. Does it have a high ranking
2. Does it have relevent content
3. Is the link page static, or is it deep in subdirectories or databases.
4. Who else links to the site? link:http://site-name.com/

5. Try and getting linked to .org or .edu. Look at Chamber of Commerce web sites as well
