Back To Basics

I see so many offers out there (often duplicated as every affiliate rushes to promote the latest and greatest internet marketing product).

Clients are always asking me “what about this product, should I try this one” and “what about that one, is that one any good” and I often remind them it’s not really that they don’t know what to do; it’s that they don’t make the time to do it.

They know they need to be on Twitter, they know they need to be on Facebook, they know they need to be writing and syndicating articles, they know they need SEO and content addition.  The problem is they don’t get around to doing everything they need to do.

So my advice is always rather than jump on the next great product (don’t get me wrong, many of them are great – but does anyone really need another program that they don’t have the time to follow?) why not figure out how to get the foundation in place and take care of the things they already know they need.

We are always looking for the big breakthrough – the thing that will drive tons of traffic or boost our sales.  The truth is if you aren’t doing all the foundation stuff (Twitter, SEO, article syndication etc) you are missing out on so much and you don’t have a foundation in place to grow upon.

So my advice is that you take a good hard look at your business – what is working?  What isn’t working?  Get back to the basics and make sure you are getting the most out of the basics and then look to expand and grow.

I’ve used this analogy before, but you can’t build a house of cards without a sturdy foundation or it topples over.  You also can’t build your business for long term success without a solid foundation in place.

So rather than chasing the latest program or trying the hottest new strategies, why don’t you make sure your foundation is in place – and then you can look to expand and try new things.

So what is your foundation?

  1. Make sure you have done a competitor analysis and know how you compare.
  2. Look at your web stats and see if you have conversion issues – make sure your bounce rate isn’t too high and identify pages that are driving traffic away.  You want to fine tune your site so it’s a sales machine.
  3. Get optimization in place so you are coming up on top of the organic engines.
  4. Participate in social media so you build a following of brand evangelists.
  5. Make sure you have a lead generation system in place with a series of messages to market to your list on-going.
  6. Get your Blog set up and properly configured with plugins and then get a plan in place to Blog consistently.
  7. Start writing articles and syndicating them.

Once you have all that in place and you are consistently doing what you should be – then you can explore new options.

Don’t get me wrong – some opportunities are too good to pass up and you need to jump on them – so don’t turn a blind eye to all opportunities.  I’m just saying before you chase each of the latest internet marketing products out there – make sure your foundation is in place.

If you have questions on any of the areas I’ve mentioned, call or email me and we’ll do a free consultation to determine what your needs are.
